KNOTTED

In my performance I was knotted in front of the building in Istanbul where I was raped at the age of 17 and
tried to free myself.

The knot and its untying is a metaphor for the claustrophobic constriction, the inability to move, and the
untying I needed both during and after the event.

There is a new study from Sweden and according to their result most women fall into a paralyzed state
during the attack, which prevents any defensive reaction. They are literally paralyzed. This reaction is called
tonic immobility. In animals it is known as a defensive reaction to an attack when resistance is not possible
and there is no escape.
